Happy Friday boys and girls, it's Miss Jess finishing our line times for the week! We made it a whole week on the computer! Can you believe it? What a week it's been. The teachers sure do miss you all.
On Fridays, we always do Grace & Courtesy. Today we're going to learn more about empathy and what it means.

To help me out, I have some special friends that want to tell you a bit about empathy:
Wasn't that fun? So just to review, empathy means the ability to understand the feelings of another. Sometimes it's being "in their shoes."

In EC1, we're always practicing empathy during the day. We help each other, talk to one another, work out problems in the Peace Area, and share. We listen and comfort each other, especially if one of our friends is feeling sad that day. We're a family in EC1.
Next, we'll be listening to this read-aloud story called I am Human: A Book of Empathy
At-home activity
At home, you can make an Appreciation Box. This can be a shoe box, empty Kleenex box, or anything of your choosing. You can decorate it too if you want.
At home, you can color pictures or write a message to someone noticing something that they did that was kind and it made you feel happy, you can show gratitude to them (being thankful). Or you can make them something if a loved one is feeling sad, worried or upset. You can make them feel better! Empathy starts with kindness.

Craft Time: Make a bracelet
If you have some pony beads or different shaped beads and a pipe-cleaner or string, you can make an empathy bracelet. Each bead/different color, can mean a different feeling. For example: yellow could be happy; blue could be sad; red could be strong; white could be gentle; orange could be brave; pink could be kind; gray could be shy. You pick! Then when you're feeling a certain way or someone else is, they can use the beads to explain how they're feeling. Each bead represents the feelings that we all share!

I hope you had fun today and learned more about empathy! Have a wonderful weekend.
