Hello boys and girls, it's Miss Jasmine! Today we are going to talk a little bit more about Venezuela. Last week we talked about some animals and the awesome waterfalls they have with Mrs. Elise! This week we are going to talk about some of the people and games they like to play in Venezuela!

There are about 28,887,118 people in Venezuela and that number is growing! The people of this country speak Spanish but there are about 26 other languages that the people speak.

The people of Venezuela have also elected President Hugo Chavez to serve the longest uninterrupted period in office with 11 consecutive years.

The main exports of Venezuela include aluminum, steel, cement, and agriculture products, and the official currency of Venezuela is the Bolivar Fuerte. Which looks like this:

The major sports that the people of Venezuela play are baseball, basketball, and football (soccer in the US). They love to play these sports as well as watch them! The sports in this country really bring the people together to gather in big groups and cheer on something they all support and love.

Here is a cool video you can practice at home and learn some awesome soccer (football) tricks:

Dancing is very important to the people in Venezuela. The women tend to wear bright skirts or dresses. The Joropo is the national dance of Venezuela. It originated in Spain and was most likely brought over in the 19th century.

Here is a video of a Venezuelan folk dance: Pajarillo.

See if you can make your own dance up at home!

We hope you enjoyed learning all about Venezuela and South America this school year!
