Hi boys and girls, this is Miss Elise! We’re going to talk about roots today.
Roots are the part of the plant that holds the plant in the ground, without roots, plants couldn’t grow, they would just fall over!
The roots soak up the water and food for the plant. In this video, I show you a cool science experiment with roots:
There are five different types of roots:
1. Fibrous roots- thin roots such as onions
2. Creeping roots- these roots cover large areas but don’t get deep in the soil.
3. Tap-roots- A very thick root.
4. Tuberous roots- These roots store food.
5. Adventitious roots- these grow on top of the soil
Some vegetables are actually roots!
What do roots do?
Some veggies actually grow in the ground! Then you have to pull them out to see the vegetable!
