Hello boys and girls, Miss Jess here, happy Thursday! Today we're going to study about our author of the month: Dr. Seuss!
I know you've heard about Dr. Seuss... he's written so many famous books! Here are just a few of the many books he's written and illustrated:
Let's learn more about Dr. Seuss! Did you know that Dr. Seuss is his pen name (the name he chose to write with). The author's real name is Theodore Seuss Geisel.
Theodore Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. He grew up and went to college at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. At Dartmouth he was editor of a magazine called The Jack-O-Lantern. He published his first children's book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street in 1937.
Dr. Seuss was really interested in illustrating his stories. His characters are creative and fun! The stories take you for a ride with silly words that always seem to rhyme! He published over 60 books during his career. His books became movies, TV shows, and even a Broadway musical. His birthday, March 2nd, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day! His books will live on forever.
Here is a fun animated version of the book The Cat in the Hat! The Cat in the Hat is one my favorites! It has exciting characters and they have quite the adventure on a very rainy day! I hope you enjoy!
FOOD PREP TIME!
A fun snack you can make to go along with what we just saw, is the Cat in the Hat Fruit Kabobs! All you need are strawberries, bananas, and kabob skewers. Slice the bananas and strawberries carefully, then arrange them on the kabob stick. Don't forget to wash your hands before touching the food!
Make a pattern: strawberry, banana, strawberry, banana. It looks like the cat's tall hat!
Enjoy this delicious and healthy treat!
CRAFT TIME
DIRECTIONS FOR THING 1 CRAFT: "Thing 1 was created by using red paint on all your fingers (except your ring finger) and the palm of your hand. Try to spread your pinkie and thumb wide enough so it creates the arms. Once you let that part dry you can paint on the belly area with white paint. The head requires blue paint on all of your fingers and white paint on the palm of your hand. After everything is all dry then go back in with a marker and draw on the face and thing 1 (or 2 if you want)."
