Hello, boys and girls, it’s Miss Jasmine, and today we are going to be talking about a very famous artist! His name is Oscar-Claude Monet, he is a French painter born November 14th, 1840. He passed away at the age of 86, December 5th, 1926.

He was known for many of his countryside paintings and that led him to adopt the same scene painting, which means he would stay in one spot and paint the same picture, but it would change with the time of day and the sun’s movements. So each painting would be similar but never quite the same!

Here are some of them. This work reminded me of how Miss. Jess was talking about shadows and the sundial people used for time! What he did with these paintings is something similar, light can affect the way things look and also where your shadow is!

In January 1865, Monet was working on a version of Le déjeuner sur l'herbe, aiming to present it for hanging at the Salon, which had rejected Manet's Le déjeuner sur l'herbe two years earlier. Monet's painting was very large and could not be completed on time (it was later cut up, with parts now in different galleries).

After this he started working on a painting called instead or the Woman in the green dress, which he used his future wife Camille in and many other paintings of his.

Monet was known for painting waterlilies!

“I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.” - Monet

Monet was a great artist who loved what he was doing and ever gave up even though some of his artwork was denied to hang in many places. He kept trying and that’s when people started to say yes and now he is known in history for his many wonderful paintings!

Here is a few coloring pages of his paintings!

Here is a clip of an awesome artist named Bob Ross working on how to draw a tree and maybe you can follow along!

And a fun YouTube clip on how to paint a watermelon!

We hope you enjoyed learning all about the artist Monet! We love seeing the art you paint in our classroom. Painting can be relaxing and yet so much fun! If you paint a picture, we'd love to see it. You can also paint one for your mom for Mother's Day! See you tomorrow.
