ree
  • A fish is an animal which lives and breathes in water.

  • All fish are vertebrates (have a backbone) and most breathe through gills and have fins and scales.

  • Fish make up about half of all known vertebrate species.

  • Fish have been on the earth for more than 500 million years.

Fish are cold-blooded animals, which means they become hotter and colder, depending on the the temperature outside. For example, when the sun sets at night, their bodies are cooler because it is less warm outside. When the sun is out, however, their bodies soak up the heat and become warmer.

Fish that live in the cold Arctic seas, adapt to that temperature.

Video that talks more about fish:

Fish live in lakes, rivers, and oceans around the world. They live in all kinds of water, from warm springs to cold Arctic seas. Some live in freshwater and some live in salt water.

Fish can even be found in the dark pools of underground caves.

But fish cannot live in water that is extremely salty. The Great Salt Lake is so salty that it has no fish.
